Hello April

I don’t know about you guys, but it sure feels great to have the month of March over and done with. March wasn’t the kindest to me, but I have high hopes for April. Big Grin

(You can check out my April Goals at the end of this post!)

Breakfast was an awesome change of pace from my usual-go-to of oatmeal: a yogurt mess!

My bowl contained:

  • 1 serving of plain yogurt (maybe half a cup?)
  • 1.5 servings Kellogg’s Bran Flakes (with dried fruit)
  • lots of cinnamon!!!

This combo was so yummy and will be repeated again soon. My favorite part about eating yogurt messes for breakfast is the easiness-factor. Last night I went ahead and measured my cereal into the bowl. This morning the only work involved in breakfast was spooning some yogurt and sprinkling some cinnamon. Almost as easy as a bowl of cereal, but even better!

When I returned home from work, my stomach was growling and feeling way more akin to a hollow cave than I would prefer. STRANGE! I really thought my breakfast had more staying power…

I had half a slice of wheat bread with peanut butter smeared in the middle. (Japanese bread is so THICK. I hate it!)

I munched on the other half of the above slice and a cheese wedge later—I think my workouts from earlier this week have finally caught up to me. Today has been a bottomless pit kind of day.

After my mini-pb sandwich, it was time to workout. Bobbi posted a really cool looking circuit routine called “Around The World” and reading about it made me want to try it myself. I modified her routine a little bit, starting with:

  • 10 jumping jacks, 10 burpees, 10 squat jumps, 10 pushups, and 10 bicycle crunches

I did the routine just as she suggested, and decreased each exercise by one rep each set. INTENSE! I definitely got a full body workout this morning. Give this a try if you’re ever in a pinch for time, or just want to try something new. It’s great.

By the time lunch finished cooking I felt like I was starving! In fact, I considered making something different than what I was craving (chahan) because I knew the rice would take at least 30-40 minutes to fully cook, not including the time it would take after to assemble the meal. I’m glad I listened to my craving because this is exactly what I wanted.

Yum, yum! Happy

To celebrate the end of teaching night classes, the husband and I are having a date night tonight. We’re staying in, though, and making dinner. I bet there’s some TV catch-up involved, too!

Before I go:

April Goals:

1. Eat mindfully. (While I am counting calories, this doesn’t always stop me from overdoing it or grabbing food when I am not hungry.)

2. “If I can, I must.” (Exercise is an important part of the healthy living equation. Find ways to motivate and inspire myself to work hard. Above all, though, listen to my body.)

3. Get back to running. (April 24 is only a little over three weeks away! I’m going to start slow, though.)

4. Treat myself once a week. (Bobbi has SBUX Fridays and Tina created Cookie Friday to incorporate a little fun into her healthy eating. I don’t like viewing food as a treat, so instead I am going to enjoy Onsen Friday. Can’t beat $7 for up to three hours of relaxing in hot baths or saunas!)

5. Spend 30 minutes every Sunday preparing for the upcoming week. (I tried this last week and it was super helpful. Pre-cutting some veggies, bagging up snacks, and getting my husband’s lunch essentials ready ahead of time makes the week run more smoothly.)

    Sounds like a great workout!

I also try to do some meal planning on Sundays – typically I try to make one big meal with lots of leftovers. My husband came have it for lunch once or twice and if we ever come home from work late, there is no excuse for takeout!
