Revisiting November+Realizing December Goals

I was hoping to post this last night, but after leaving work and biking home, I walked in the door and went straight to bed. Suffice it to say that Tuesday and Wednesday have lost their running for my favorite day of the week.

Let’s recap my goals for November and how well I did at accomplishing those.

  1. Stop wasting time. Check! I learned how to be productive during the day and enjoy my weekend more fully. I am glad I made this a goal.
  2. Get weekly chores done early. Another check! I made it my mission to do weekly chores on Monday and Tuesday.
  3. Start a new exercise routine. Fail. With an injured foot, I could not run for almost the whole month. Instead of using this to find new ways of working out, I used it as an excuse.
  4. No Staples Week. Check, check, check! So happy we tried this. We found two really great recipes that we’ve already been incorporating into our weekly meal rotations.
  5. No Makeup Month. Halfway check. I decided midway through the month that I wanted to wear makeup and look nice for my husband sometimes. I abandoned this goal.
  6. Get into a normal eating routine. Check. Three regular meals and two snacks a day seems to be what works best for me. I’m sticking with it!
  7. Dessert once a week only. Fail. This one is tough, but I am still working on it.
  8. Measure out portions and serving sizes. Halfway check. I’ve not been militant about this, but I have been making great strides. The other day I spooned some pb out of the jar (an amount I thought was 1 tablespoon) and then I weighed it to see if I was correct. I was!!!
  9. Drop body fat to 20%. Nope! I checked my body fat percentage again two days ago. It did drop a tiny, tiny bit, but it definitely has a while to go before seeing the big 2-0. I’m just glad it didn’t go up.
  10. Try eggplant! Check. Ate eggplant twice this month. I’ve decided I’m definitely not it’s biggest fan, but if someone had some already prepared or in a dish, I’d eat it.

Looking back over November’s goals, I accomplished more than I thought. Unfortunately I feel like I dropped the ball too many times last month by skipping workouts and binging.

Onto December:

  1. Continue with three meals and two snacks a day. This leaves me full and not feeling deprived without feeling like I am eating all day.
  2. Track my food choices without focusing on calories. I’ve been using Spark People, again, to see where I could be making smarter picks, so while I am “counting,” I am really not. I’m using this to ease myself into a lifestyle where I don’t need to track, but can trust myself to make smart choices.
  3. Drop body fat percentage. It may not hit the 20% mark I’d like to see in December, but I’d be happy with any decrease.
  4. Learn to cook two new meals this month.
  5. Two yoga practices per week, along with 10K training.

I see no reason I cannot succeed this month!

I have had a similar feeling to yours all day. Just super slow to start and groggy. I think it’s the lack of sleep due to waking up early again for work.

Your simple lunch looks simply delicious! I love the looks of that wrap.

I’m pretty sure you squeezed in extra cardio by beating your futon.

Congrats on making progress with your goals! Have you ever had eggplant parmesan? It’s a classic recipe for that vegetable that’s quite tasty!

Wow, these are great goals! Good for you Maria!

My major goal for this month is to stay on track and lose 5 pounds, even with the events and holidays and all that good stuff. So within that goal is to make a plan for each night, event, day, etc that I have on my calendar. That will make me take a minute and think about my goal!

Arrg, I feel so lazy and unproductive compared to you. Geez! I need to lose weight, but I get so distracted by life. It’s hard. Really hard. Thank you for inspiring me and helping me look at my goals more fully.

    P.S. LOVE your blog!

That’s such an exciting adventure, being in Japan. I love that country!
